Do you have this problem with your track?
This is a common problem with synthetic running tracks nowadays, especially in the tropics.
Synthetic Athletics track systems are complex structures made up of different layers, we need to analyze each layer to understand where the problem is.
We at The RS Group found and developed TAS™ (Tropical Athletic System), to solve this problem in synthetic athletic tracks.
How does it work?
The process begins once the sub-base is formed.
A drainage trench is made at a certain distance followed by a layer of geotextile to cover the base including the trench. If the sub-base is made of stable soil, the geotextile can be omitted. A 50mm perforated sub-soil pipe is laid in the trench and covered with clean crushed stone.
One might ask, why would you install a sub-soil pipe for a non-permeable track system, the reason is to remove water from below, not above.
A mixture of crushed stone and sand are then laid above the drainage lines to form the base of the track. This layer is leveled to the required fall utilizing laser leveling equipment and compacted to form the unbound base. Again, this is a permeable layer. The installation must be controlled and supervised by trained and experienced personnel.
Customarily tracks would use an asphalt layer to receive the synthetic surface however, in our system we use a special mixture (RSP 40) of PU, SBR and Fine Stone, and paved with specialized equipment at the required thickness above the unbound base.
RSP 40 will last for 25 years, if your surface wears off, just rejuvenate it by grinding the worn surface and apply a 3mm to 4 mm coating of polyurethane with EPDM granules.
At this stage, the surface is sealed with two layers of polyurethane mix. It is important to apply this layer under dry weather.
Once the sealing layer is dry, the coloured polyurethane is applied and the coloured EPDM granules are broadcasted.
TAS™ is easy to repair because surface damage can be repaired without full depth replacement.
Line marking is applied by a WA certified applicator to meet WA certification.
TAS™ is cost-effective, quick to install and easy to maintain.
TAS™ meets WA certification requirements.
